Foster puppy progress

We have been making slow but steady progress progress with our current foster puppy, Avril. She started off terrified, scared of humans and just about any loud noises or sudden movements.

Pets and attention? No way. Toys? No thanks, just trying to survive. Treats? Maybe, but definitely not from your hand.

Now, she’ll let us pet her (doesn’t love it, but she’ll easily allow it). She has 1 bone she likes chewing on— no other toys yet, but she likes her dear antler. She LOVES going on walks with Bane— still learning leash etiquette, but she’s doing great for not having any “formal” training.

Potty training is a breeze with her— I don’t want to reprimand her for pottying inside and scare her any as she continues to warm up to us, but I almost don’t have to. Her only accidents are first thing in the morning if we don’t let her outside immediately. But, she has a very cute way of jumping on the bed to let us know she’s awake, wants to play, go potty, and eat breakfast. As long as we get her outside right away, that’s normally the only time she would have an accident in the house. She’s really easy-peasy in that department!

Bane has been helping a lot with her confidence. He is showing her the ropes and offering protection from anything scary (aka humans, most of the time). We’ve had Avril as our foster for about 2 months, which is a pretty long time for a foster, especially a puppy. But with some more patience and hard work from both parties, I’m confident (much more so than when we first got her) that she will conquer her fears and become the brave, loving, sweet girl I know she can be!
