I am an enthusiast for all things Jeep and, recently, golf carts. I'm currently working to build a side business as a niche technical documentation writer.
This journey started for me when I purchased a set of LED lights for my Denago Nomad XL golf cart, and both came with no installation instructions. Now, I consider myself a fairly handy person, but I still struggled with the installation of the lights! I was unable to find help for this specific golf cart model and similar lights online, which led me to connect with the owner of the company I purchased from. He was fantastic at walking me through some of the issues I'd encountered, and we were able to work together to get the lights wired and installed.
But, this got me thinking... how many calls like this does he get weekly, or even daily? With no provided documentation and no support number, he was left to field these type of calls himself.
I also felt for other consumers who may run into similar problems as I did, who may feel lost and unsure of where to seek help.
So, in an effort to help others who I knew must be having similar issues, I took it upon myself to create a set of installation instructions for these particular lights. I truly enjoy projects like this, and the end result would be helpful for the community.
I created a detailed, step-by-step installation guide with original photos of each major step in the process, and posted here on my little blog. I also shared to a few Denago Facebook pages where I'd seen other people struggling with install. To my great surprise, my "fun little project" garnered over 300 views! This proved to me that there is a real need for this type of documentation in the community.
A week or so later (also to my great surprise), I also received a phone call from the company I'd purchased the lights from-- they wanted more documents for their other products! We chatted and agreed on a deal as I was just getting started in my writing career, and they sent me several products in exchange for installation guides.
Currently, I am seeking additional opportunities to expand my writing portfolio. I specialize in documenting installation of aftermarket Jeep Wrangler and golf cart parts. I'm comfortable installing both "bolt-on"/plug-and-play parts, as well as electrical parts such as lighting accessories.
