Avril found her furever home this week!

Avril (Avvy) went to her new home this week!!! As one of our toughest (but most rewarding) fosters yet, I am soo happy to see her land in the most perfect, loving forever home. She has a new adult dog sister named Lexi who sounds like the perfect “tour guide” to her new life.

Her new mom says Avvy is adjusting slowly (as expected), but is getting warmed up to her new space. I’m sure she will continue making steady progress and she becomes the brave, smart, sweet girl I already know her as.

My last picture with sweet Avril! Her mom had just pulled up in the driveway to pick her up.

I want to share a very sweet, “meant-to-be” realization I had after initially speaking with her new mom over the phone.

The travel crate Avvy came to us in from the shelter in Alabama must’ve previously belonged to another dog, because there was tape with a different name written on it (not uncommon when we receive pups from shelters).

Gabe’s mom made her a new name tag at some point and didn’t think about it again… until I met Avvy’s new mom for the first time.

We normally do a Zoom video interview before moving forward with the adoption process. This woman had already met Avvy at an adoption event 2 weeks ago (and sat with her the full two hours of the event!), so we skipped the Zoom call and just chatted on the phone to make sure everything was a good fit. She told me about her current dog, Lexi, who was also a bit skittish at first, but sounded like a great friend for our Avvy— and made me feel comforted knowing that her new mom had some experience with pups who need a little extra time and patience.

Once we got off the phone, I was talking to my boyfriend Gabe and telling him about Avvy’s new to-be sister Lexi. It was at that moment that I remembered the name tag— the original name on Avril’s crate was labeled “Lexi”— spelled the same and everything!

So many of our foster pups have had these little synchronicities with their new families, and it’s soo special to feel like the universe is telling us they found their perfect furever homes.  I can’t wait to get future updates as she progresses!
